Dr. Karl D. Jackson

USTBC President

Dr. Jackson is President of the US-Thailand Business Council. He also concurrently serves as as C.V. Starr Distinguished Professor of Southeast Asian Studies and he serves as Director of the Southeast Asia Studies Program at the School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University.

After graduating from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in 1965, he received his Ph.D. in Political Science from M.I.T. in 1971. He began teaching in 1972 at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was Professor of Political Science. 

Dr. Jackson served as Assistant to the Vice President for National Security Affairs from 1991-1993. Prior to that, he was Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and Senior Director for Asian Affairs at the National Security Council. 

Dr. Jackson served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia from 1986-1989. He also served in the Department of Defense as Deputy Director for Policy Planning from 1983-1984 and as Assistant for the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam from 1982-1983. 

Dr. Jackson authored Traditional Authority, Islam and Rebellion: A Study of Indonesian Political Behavior (1980), and edited Cambodia 1975-1978: Rendevous with Death (1989). In addition to numerous articles, he co-edited Political Power and Communication in Indonesia (1978), ASEAN Security and Economic Development (1980), ASEAN in Regional and International Context (1986), and United States - Thailand Relations (1986).

Ross J. Tyler

USTBC Executive Director 

Mr. Tyler joins the USTBC with 16 years international experience in both public and private sector. He is an officer for a number of DC based organizations, has worked for the International Franchise Association and has managed a number of large donor funded projects (World Bank and USAID) involving economic development and enterprise strengthening in emerging markets. Mr. Tyler’s technical background involves company international expansion and distribution including marketing channels and franchising. His experience also includes promotion of trade and commerce between the US and countries in Europe, South America, Australia and Asia. Mr. Tyler received his B.Sc. from St Andrews University, Scotland and his MBA from University of Kent, UK.
