Thailand - U.S. Business Council Welcomes CSG to Thailand
On the occasion of the
Council of State Government’s (CSG) official visit to Thailand, the Thailand –
U.S. Business Council (TUSBC) hosted a luncheon in the delegation's honor. The
event was held on Tuesday, November 9th, 2004 at the Bangkok
Club
Heading the delegation was the CSG President—Governor and
former US Senator Frank Murkowski of Alaska—a long time friend of Thailand. Also
participating was the Executive Director of CSG Mr. Dan Sprague as well as
representatives of the states of Oklahoma, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and Nevada
and US private sector. On the Thai side, the event was represented by a broad
spectrum of interests, including senior officers from the Thai private sector,
as well as from the U.S. private sector, and senior officers from the U.S.
Embassy, including U.S. Ambassador H.E. Darryl N. Johnson. The event paved way
for CSG to establish dialogue with the Thai private sector and to discuss issues
of mutual interest, including progress in the negotiations of the Thailand -
U.S. FTA as well as developments in U.S. politics subsequent to the re-election
of President George W. Bush in early November 2004.
Founded in 1933,
CSG is a multi-state network and vital link between and among state leaders and
the US private sector. CSG whose national headquarters office is in Lexington
Kentucky has additional 3 regional offices and an office in Washington, DC. CSG
has been assisting the Thai parliament, provinces and municipalities with energy
and environmental matters.
The TUSBC executive luncheon series is aimed
at providing a venue for top policy makers both Thai and American to engage in
frank and open exchange on issues of mutual concern. As has been the case with
the luncheon series, this session was off-the record.
